Software engineering for the systems your business runs on.
Bitwater Labs builds custom business software, AI automation, SaaS products and the infrastructure underneath them. For each capability, this page describes what we build, what you receive and how we approach the work.
Start a projectCustom Software Development
Software shaped around how your business actually operates, not the other way around.
Off-the-shelf tools cover the common case. Custom software makes sense where your process is the advantage, where systems need to talk to each other or where spreadsheets and manual steps have become the bottleneck. We build applications, APIs and integrations that fit into what you already run.
What we build
- Web applications and internal tools for operations, sales, finance and support teams
- APIs with clear contracts and documentation, for internal use or for partners
- Integrations between ERP, CRM, accounting, e-commerce and legacy systems
- Customer and partner portals with role-based access
- Step-by-step replacement of legacy applications, without a risky all-at-once cutover
Typical deliverables
- A written scope with goals, boundaries and open questions
- Working software, delivered in reviewable increments
- Source code with automated tests, in a repository you have access to
- API documentation, for example as an OpenAPI specification
- A deployment pipeline and a documented environment setup
- Technical documentation and a handover session for your team
Approach and technology
We favor proven, well-supported technology and typed code, because the software has to be maintained long after the first release. Data models and interfaces are designed before screens. Integrations are built to fail visibly and recover cleanly, with retries, idempotent operations and logs your team can read.
Typical building blocks
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- React and Next.js
- Python
- PostgreSQL
- REST and GraphQL
- OpenAPI
- Docker
- CI/CD pipelines
AI & Intelligent Automation
AI where it helps, with the controls a business process needs.
Many operations still depend on people reading documents, copying data between systems and answering the same questions again and again. AI and automation can take over much of that work, but only if the system is designed from the start for errors, audits and edge cases. We build AI-assisted workflows and test them against your real cases before they go live.
What we build
- Document processing that extracts structured data from invoices, contracts, forms and emails
- Knowledge systems that answer questions from your own documents, with sources and access rules
- AI agents that carry out defined tasks across your tools, with scoped permissions and approval steps
- Workflow automation that connects systems, routes work and handles exceptions
- Classification, summarization and triage for inbound requests
Typical deliverables
- An assessment of which steps are worth automating, and which are not
- An evaluation set built from your real cases, with agreed quality criteria
- A production workflow with human review wherever errors are costly
- Monitoring of output quality, latency and running cost
- Documentation of prompts, models, data flows and fallback behavior
Approach and technology
We treat AI components like any other dependency: versioned, tested and monitored. The model follows the task and the data. That can be a hosted model API, a self-hosted open-weight model or no model at all when a plain rule does the job. Where your data may go is decided up front and documented.
Typical building blocks
- Hosted LLM APIs
- Open-weight models
- Retrieval over your own data (RAG)
- OCR and document parsing
- Vector and full-text search
- Evaluation pipelines
- Python and TypeScript
- Queue-based workflow orchestration
SaaS & Product Engineering
From a first concept to a product in long-term operation.
Building a software product takes more than shipping features. It means accounts and roles, billing, onboarding, support tooling, security updates and a release process that doesn’t interrupt your customers’ work. We design, build and operate SaaS products for clients. We also develop products of our own, so we know the work continues long after launch.
What we build
- Multi-tenant SaaS applications with accounts, roles and permissions
- First releases scoped to test a product idea with real users
- Subscription billing, usage metering and admin tooling
- Public APIs, webhooks and integrations for your customers
- Continued development and operation of existing products
Typical deliverables
- Product and technical architecture, including the tenancy and data model
- A scoped first release and a roadmap for what follows
- A design system and reusable front-end components
- An automated test suite, CI/CD and staged environments
- Monitoring, alerting, backups and documented runbooks
- A release process that keeps customers informed about changes
Approach and technology
We scope first releases tightly and build the foundations properly, because authentication, tenancy, data isolation and observability are hard to add later. After launch, we can operate the product with you, or hand it over to your team with everything needed to run it.
Typical building blocks
- TypeScript
- React and Next.js
- Node.js
- PostgreSQL
- OpenID Connect and SSO
- Billing provider integration
- Infrastructure as code
- OpenTelemetry
Business Systems & Infrastructure
The foundation layer: secure, observable and ready for more entities, users and data.
As a business grows, its systems multiply: more entities, more users, more data sources and higher expectations for security and availability. We design and build the platforms and infrastructure that keep enterprise software manageable, from access control and data integration to monitoring and recovery.
What we build
- Secure internal platforms with single sign-on and role-based access
- Multi-entity systems for groups with several companies, brands or locations
- Data integration and pipelines that give operational systems one consistent view
- Monitoring, logging and alerting across applications and infrastructure
- Scalable hosting setups on cloud or dedicated infrastructure, defined as code
- Backup, restore and disaster-recovery procedures
Typical deliverables
- An architecture overview with data flows and access boundaries
- Infrastructure as code for repeatable environments
- Dashboards and alerts tied to what matters to the business
- Backup and restore procedures, tested by actually restoring
- Runbooks for routine operations and incidents
- A security review of access, secrets and dependencies
Approach and technology
Security and operability are designed in, not added at the end. We keep infrastructure as simple as the requirements allow, automate what repeats and make every environment reproducible. When it matters where data is stored and processed, the hosting choice follows that requirement.
Typical building blocks
- Linux
- Containers and Docker
- Terraform or OpenTofu
- PostgreSQL
- OpenTelemetry
- Prometheus and Grafana
- OIDC and SAML identity providers
- Cloud and dedicated hosting
How projects start and run.
Every engagement follows our method: Understand, Design, Build, Operate. Here is what that looks like from your side.
A first conversation
You describe the problem, the systems involved and any constraints. We ask questions and tell you plainly whether we are the right team for it. There is no commitment at this stage.
A written scope
We turn what we learned into a written scope: goals, what is in and out, risks, open questions and a proposed first phase. It gives you a concrete basis for a decision.
Delivery in increments
We build in short cycles and deploy to a real environment early. You review working software regularly and can adjust priorities between increments.
Operation or handover
After launch, we can operate and improve the system with you. If your team takes over, you receive the code, documentation and runbooks needed to run it.
What you can count on
- Direct contact with the engineers doing the work
- Decisions, trade-offs and scope changes in writing
- Honest estimates and early notice when something changes
- Standard, documented technology, so you are not tied to us

Most projects touch more than one capability. Describe the problem, and we’ll suggest where to start.
